This low-angle spokeshave is modeled after the Stanley 85 Razor Boxwood Spokeshave, which was produced from 1905 to 1935. This spokeshave can shape both concave and convex surfaces, making it an excellent tool for refining outside contours, smoothing chair legs and spindles, and working on various dowels.
Unlike most modern spokeshaves, this model features a blade that is fixed to the body via two posts attached directly to the blade and secured to the body with two knurled brass knobs. In this configuration, the blade itself forms the sole of the tool, allowing for precise, controlled and chatter-free shaping.
The blade can be moved forward and backward by approximately 1/8” to adjust the mouth opening, but there is no traditional blade depth adjustment. Instead, blade depth is controlled by raising or lowering the adjustable toe piece. For convex shaping, keep the toe piece in place, tipping the spokeshave backward for deeper cuts and forward for finer cuts. For concave shaping, flip the toe piece 180 degrees.
Specifications:
This spokeshave is a must-have tool for woodworkers who need to shape and refine curved surfaces.
